This course is intended to facilitate the development of skills recognized as being critical for teaching in higher education settings. The course content will draw heavily from research and evidence-based practice as well as from the personal experiences of the course facilitators, guest speakers and students. A hands-on, workshop model will be used to introduce students to a variety of content areas and to allow students to practice newly acquired skills in a supportive learning environment. The goal of the course is to provide students in all disciplines with the foundations needed to become skilled, thoughtful, and confident teachers in higher education. This includes gaining an understanding of and reflecting on learner and teacher issues. Students will be introduced to a variety of teaching approaches, and will use both peer- and self-assessment techniques to monitor their progress.
